What is Direct Vent
Direct Vent (DV) gas fireplaces give you the allure of a real wood-burning
fireplace with the economy, convenience, and warmth of direct vent gas space
heating. Since no expensive chimney construction is necessary, installation can
be considerably less expensive than a wood-burning fireplace, and DV fireplaces
can be an excellent primary heat source; even in a power outage.
Direct vent gas fireplaces are ideally suited for today’s energy efficient
homes. Unlike all other types of fireplaces, they don't consume indoor air, and
also don't affect indoor air quality. Using a coaxial vent system, (a pipe
within a pipe), outside air is drawn in through the outer pipe into a sealed
combustion chamber containing the burner system and logs. Exhaust gases are then
vented through the inner pipe outside of the home.
Room air is heated around the sealed chamber, creating a thermal air flow
drawing cooler air in the lower louvers and heated air out the top louvers.
Meanwhile, the flames, glowing embers and logs radiate additional heat through
the glass door panel into the room
